Jazz Band

St. FX Jazz Band, currently under the direction of Mr. D. Vespa
Practices take place every Monday between 2:40- 3:40.

Jazz Band is comprised of students who are not only proficient on their instruments but also exhibit an aptitude for mastering the complex rhythms of jazz, swing, blues and Latin music and are comfortable improvising and soloing.

The band consists of instruments characteristic of so called “Big Band” era that developed in 1940’s and 1950's, but modern funk and rock arrangements are performed as well. The instrumentation consists of 5 saxophones (usually 2 altos, 2 tenors, and 1 baritone saxophone), 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, the rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass, and drums) and a singer (or singers). The Jazz Band participates in the annual Christmas and Spring concerts and at various sports and spirit building events throughout the school community.
