INSTRUMENTAL (BAND) PROGRAM

St. FX Music Department will provide  instruments.

Course Code: AMU1O1. Gr. 9 Instrumental (beginners).

This entry-level course is designed for students without any musical background. Students will learn to perform on one of band instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, double bass, or percussion).

Description: The course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen and perform with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use.

Course Code: AMI1O1. Gr. 9 Instrumental (advanced).

This course is designed for the music students who:

a) have had a minimum of two years training on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument either in elementary school or in private lessons OR

b) are proficient piano players at the level of at least Grade 5-6 Royal Conservatory of Music.

Gr. 9 Junior Band

All Gr. 9 students will be expected to perform in the Gr. 9 Junior Band. The Gr. 9 Junior Band practices start at the end of October after school and last until end of May. Many performance opportunities are planned for the Gr. 9 Junior Band.
