Instructors:
Mr. D. Vespa (2005 - present)
Mr. Vespa had been teaching for 4 years at Iona S. School before joining
Xavier in September 2005. He graduated from McMaster University with a B. Mus.
and later received his teaching degree from The University of Western Ontario. Mr. Vespa
specializes in percussion. He also is currently department head of the Arts
and Computers at the school. He teaches all grades for both instrumental and
guitar classes. At Iona he conducted the concert band, jazz band and the
liturgical choir. At Xavier he has conducted the Junior Band, the Senior Band, Wind Ensemble,
the Jazz Band, Chamber Choir and guitar ensemble. What excites him at Xavier is the amount of great
musicians in each band and ensemble.
Mr. M. Hibbitt (2008 - Present)
Mr. Hibbitt has recently
graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a B. Mus. and later
received his teaching degree from Nippising University. During this time, he specialized in
playing the trumpet. He is a great addition to the program with a strong
background in brass instruments and piano. Mr. Hibbitt teaches all beginner classes in the subject
of music such as instrumental and guitar. He also conducts the Junior Band,
Grade 10 guitar Ensemble and assists with the Concert band and Liturgical
Choir.
Mr. J. Dubiel (1998 - 2008)
Mr. Dubiel had been a part of the Xavier School community for 9 years. He
graduated from McMaster University with a B. Mus. and later received his
teaching degree from Brock University. During this time, he specialized in
playing the clarinet. His effective practice methods have contributed to his
overall success as a musician. Mr. Dubiel has taught all classes in the
subject of music such as instrumental, guitar and vocal for all grades. He is
currently on a leave of absence teaching music abroad.
Ms. S. Dobson-Schwieg (1999 - 2005, currently at St. Edmund
Campion)
Before coming to Xavier where she taught for 6 and half years, Ms. Dobson-Schwieg
worked for 4 years for the Toronto Board of Education. Currently she is at St.
Edmund Campion in Brampton. Ms. Schwieg graduated with a B. Music at Windsor
University and later received her teaching degree from Nippising University.
She plays the clarinet and specializes in teaching junior grades. While at
Xavier she conducted the Junior Band, Gr. 9 band, guitar ensemble and choir.
Mr. J. Pikolon (2003, sem. II)
Mr. Pikolon taught at Xavier for one semester during Ms. Schwieg's maternity
leave. He directed the Junior Band and participated in the Senior Band Boston
trip. He studied piano at McMaster University and received his teaching
degree from University of Calgary.
Mr. F. Biagiarelli (1996 - 2000, currently at The York School
in Toronto)
Mr. Biagiarelli taught at Xavier for 4 years and is currently teaching at a
private school in Toronto. He graduated with a B. Mus. from York
University and later received his teaching degree from the University of
Toronto. He plays the guitar and teaches all grades and all programs in the
subject of music. He has also conducted all kinds of bands and ensembles in
the past. His favourite experience at Xavier was the band trip to Florida in
2000.
Ms. Lynn-Davies (1991 - 1996)
Ms. Lynne-Davies started teaching in 1984. At Xavier she taught for 5 years
and is currently teaching music and math in Paris, Ontario. She graduated from
the University of Western Ontario and later received her degree in teaching from the
University of Toronto. She is a piano player.
